Cleared surface

Site 12 of 14

These photos were taken on a field that was cleared for cranberry farming. They were obtained before, during, and after the clearing, which took place in 1998. They are listed in chronological order.

One would expect the site of the field to be on the edge of the Bog to allow quick convenient access, but such was not the case. To get there, one must walk for 20 minutes from the edge through prime bog vegetation. The values of bog ecosystems were obviously not a factor in the planning of this project. The cleared land was never turned into an operational cranberry farm. Today, the land is still bare because bog vegetation takes an extremely long period of time to come back.
